The Band
|
In two years, and like any band that wants the standard to be high; there will be lot's of personnel changes.
And with BStock, having a 'special guest' always keep it interesting.
But the main core of George Stass, Tony Kendirgi and Larry Russell has always been untouched.
Losing one of our founding members, Marc Gwinn in January 2006, was a blow to us, but he moved to China (which was too far to take the 'D' train for a monthly gig) but once in a while he gets back to the states to do a reunion show with us and we luv it.
We've had the privledge to have Preston Eliott (once a member of the band Strawberry Fields) for a year, and Joe Pecorino (of Beatlemania) still drops by every now and then, to do a show (June 24th, 2007) Paul Jacobs performed with us at The Cutting Room and at Sellarville Theatre in PA.
Lead guitarist James Filgate (from The Cast Of Beatlemania) plays occasionally with us as does lead guitarist Gregg Potter, (from the tribute band, Almost Fab).
Ilya Maslov began his journey from Russia and ended up playing Jazz and Rock here in the US. He was the first keyboardist we began with and he is really a wonderful musician. Bill Malchow has currently been BStock's keyboardist at The Cutting Room shows and does a great job as well with getting all the sounds The Beatles used.
And one of the most interesting moments for us was to have George Pool fly all the way from England to do our July 8th, 2006 show at The Cutting Room. He sang so very much like Macca and was an asset to our show.
Flying in from France, we were lucky to have Richard Neale do his Macca thing with us--good voice and nice person. He's in France now gigging with his tribute band at a theatre in Paris.
But having Gary Gibson (of the UK) fly in on his own dime to blow everyone away at The Cutting Room on October 14, 2006 was beyond words. Just go to our gallery to see how he looks. He sang so very much like John, and with those two elements combined; it was startling, acually eerie.
Lately we are very happy and grateful to have John Merjave (of the tribute band, 'Liverpool') to play and sing with us--a great player and singer. But most of all, a great human being, so easy to work with.
I cannot forget to mention our Vocalist/Percussionist Rev. Flash, who does a very fine job at singing and playing his array of percussive instruments to include the overdubs The Beatles used.

About Larry Russell
|
Larry Russell is a true 60's child, having been signed to a record contract at the tender age of 16 (actually he was underage and his Mother signed it for him). Larry recorded (playing the drums) with his band, The Age of Reason for United Artists Records.
Subsequently, their single,'Magnet' has turned up on many compilation CDs finding it's way into college radio stations globally.
At 21, Larry Russell literally launched Billy Joel's solo career being chosen as Billy first bassist and member into his new touring band. Larry was responsible for the bass patterns for many of Billy's songs, such as 'Travelin' Prayer' and 'Captain Jack'. You can hear Larry play those songs and others for Billy on 'The Sigma Sessions' Bootleg CD.
Larry really liked touring, so he toured for four years with the Grammy Award winning musical, Godspell--racking up over 1000 peformances.
He then toured with the American Folk singer,Elliott Murphy who was signed to CBS Records. They opened for ELO, The Kinks and Rory Gallagher in separate tours in the US and in France from 1979-1980.
Rock legend, Gary US Bonds had Larry in his band to record an LP, tour the US, and to participate in a video that aired on MTV in 1984. They also performed on SOLID GOLD TV Show that year, as well.
In May of 1991, The Mamas and Papas used Larry's bass skills to tour Austria and England for a 20 city tour, that allowed Larry the op to visit Abbey Road Studios for a 90 minute private tour.
Subsequently, Larry perfomed with Bryan Adams (as percussionist) on The Rosie O'Donnell Show (1996 & 1998), Conan O'Brien (1996), and The VH-1 Fashion Awards (1996.
In recent performances, Larry played bass with Denny Laine (of Wings) and for Mary Wilson (of The Supremes).
